One hundred years in the making. Coming to your city.
There are moments when a city becomes the centre of something larger than itself.
Sydney has been that city before - and in 2028, it will be again.
One hundred years ago, the International Eucharistic Congress came to Sydney.
It was one of the great international gatherings of its era: pilgrims from across the world arriving in the harbour city for a week of ceremony, prayer, and public witness that the people of Sydney had never seen before - and would not see again for a century.
In 2028, it returns.
The 54th International Eucharistic Congress is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of people to Sydney from Australia and around the world.
The Pope is expected to visit. International delegations, pilgrims, and visitors from every continent will gather in this city for an event that will be watched across the globe.
As well as a religious gathering, it is one of the largest and most significant international events Australia has been asked to host in a generation.
It will shape the city, move through its streets and venues, and leave its mark on the story of Sydney.
By signing up, you'll follow the journey to Eucharist28 as it unfolds. You'll receive:
- Updates on what's being prepared as the Congress takes shape
- News about the programme, the Pope's expected visit, and major milestones
- Stories of what is being built in Sydney and across Australia
- A front-row view of something historic as it develops
Whatever brought you to this page - curiosity, a sense that something significant is coming, or simply a desire to follow the story of a major event in your city - you're welcome here.
